AdminHistoryNewton-le-Willows County Secondary School was situated in Patterson Street, Newton-le-Willows. 390 pupils from this school and the senior pupils from Burtonwood County Secondary School were combined into the new Selwyn Jones County Secondary School in Ashton Road in 1964. A further amalgamation with Newton-le-Willows Grammar School resulted in a change of name to Selwyn Jones High School in 1971. The school was renamed as Newton-le-Willows High School in 1988.

In the early years of the twenty first century a new federation between Newton-le-Willows Community High School and St. Aelred's Catholic Technology College was discussed with the idea that the schools should combine in a new building called Newton Academy. This came to fruition in 2011, when the new venture was called the Hope Academy, Ashton Road, Newton-le-Willows.
