Notes | Louis Lane was born 1885 in Parr, St.Helens. He attended Holy Cross School, and then became a glass grinder. He enlisted in the army in Sep 1914 and landed in France Nov 1915 as part of the 30th Division. He took part in all the battles of late 1915 and 1916 including the first day of the Somme (1 Jul 1916). He was wounded by gas at the 3rd battle of Ypres (Passchendaele), France in Aug 1918 and was transferred to the Royal Defence Force. He was discharged from the Army in 1919, and lived in Park Road, Fingerpost, Parr, until his death in 1950. |
