NotesGeorge Hilton acquired the Newton Nurseries in 1880 and appointed John Randall as manager. Randall became sole proprietor following the death of Hilton and it became known as Randall's Nursery. John Randall died in 1915 and the business passed to his son, Sidney Randall.

The famous entrance to the nursery was built as the entrance to Haydock Lodge in the 1790s, but became known as 'Randall's Archway'.
