List of index entries for volumes of newscuttings held by St.Helens Local History and Archives Library.

Please click on the link below to access a PDF document containing a searchable list of index entries for 70 volumes of newscuttings from local newspapers of the St.Helens area published between 1885-1974. These newcuttings are available to view in the searchroom at St.Helens Local History and Archives Library.

How do I search the document?

After opening a document please press CTRL-F (if you are using a PC) or Command-F (if you are using an Apple Mac). A search box will be displayed in the upper right of the screen. For an advanced search press Shift-CTRL-F (if you are using a PC) or Shift-Command-F (if you are using an Apple Mac). A new window will appear alongside the document with more search options.

Once you have located an index entry (e.g. 'Gamble Institute: (1905): pages 169-171'), use the scroll bar on the right of the page to move up the PDF document in order to locate the title heading of the particular volume that contains that newscutting (e.g. 'Index for book of newscuttings - St.Helens Corporation 7 Apr 1905 - 21 Nov 1905'). Make a note of this information and bring it with you when you visit St.Helens Local History and Archives Library. You will be able to locate the newscutting volume that you require and you will be able to turn straight to the page that contains the cutting that you wish to read.
